Is there a better season than summer? At Biokleen, we’d argue no.
Sunshine. Barbecues. Street festivals. No school. It doesn’t get much better than that. But with so many possible summer trips and activities to get after, it’s easy to get a little messy.
That’s why we want to walk you through some common summer stains and how to handle them. Here’s our guide to staying fresh, so don’t be afraid to wear that white linen shirt you look so dapper in.
Deodorant Stains
With the hot summer season comes sweat. With sweat, comes deodorant — for most people out there, anyway. While we all love to smell nice, deodorant stains happen. You might have noticed them on gym clothes that you sweat in frequently.
The best way to avoid deodorant stains is by preventing them. Two tips: Don’t overdo putting it on. More is not necessarily better. The second tip is to wait until it dries to put on your clothes, which we know can be difficult when you’re in a rush, but it helps.
If stains still happen, we recommend pouring a little bit of Biokleen Sport Laundry Liquid on the stained areas and rubbing it with your fingers or scratching it gently with your nails. Then, let the garment soak in hot water. After a good soaking, follow up by throwing it in the wash and do your normal laundry machine cycle with Biokleen Sport Laundry Liquid. Repeat as necessary. You should see results.
Suntan Lotion Stains
We’ll play “Mom” for a second and remind you how important it is to protect yourself from UV rays with sunscreen. But sometimes overapplying can lead to stains.
Sunscreen stains typically look oily, but they can also appear yellowish. If you spot a suntan lotion stain on your clothes, we recommend rinsing with hot water to remove the excess oil and then following up with Biokleen Oxy Bleach Plus.
You can pour a little bit of Oxy Bleach Plus on the stain itself and scrub it in with your finger. This will help coat the affected area for maximum cleaning power. Once that’s done, toss it in the washing machine and do your normal washing cycle. We recommend avoiding the dryer, instead letting your items air dry, as heat can bake in a stain if it’s not entirely gone. You should see results, but repeat the process as necessary. This works on all sorts of clothing stains, including grass stains and getting mud out of clothes.
Cold Brew and Iced Coffee Stains (and cocktails, teas, IPAs, popsicles)
Ahh, caffeine: The sweet nectar of the gods. Let’s face it. There’s not much worse than spilling coffee when all you want to do is enjoy it. If you spill coffee on your carpet, immediately blot up as much of the coffee as you can. Acting quickly can save you time later down the line, so don’t hesitate to blot immediately with a rag. That goes for any liquid, ice cream, or popsicle stain. The faster you act, the better.
Once blotted, use Bac-Out Stain + Odor Remover and thoroughly saturate the stain. Let Bac-Out sit on the stain for five minutes or more and blot again. Repeat this process as necessary, as Bac-Out uses stain-fighting enzymes that eat away at stains and odors until they are gone.
Vertical Stains
It can be especially hard to clean summer stains off vertical surfaces such as a car interior or the backrest of furniture. When that happens, we recommend using Bac-Out Stain + Odor Foaming Spray. This product is specifically designed to cling to vertical surfaces to make life easier. It also safely eliminates stains, odors, and urine from your pet’s favorite areas.
